Where have all the flowers gone

많은 젊은이들이 전쟁터에 나가 목숨을 잃고 묘지에 꽃만 있던 현실을 비판한 곡이다.

마치 불교의 윤회 사상을 다룬 곡 같기도 하다.

원래 이 곡은 구 소련 에스코니아 민요를 포크송의 원조인 Pete Seeger가 영어로 개사하여 부른 노래라고 한다.

이후 킹스턴 트리오가 1962년 이 노래를 다시 발표하여 당시 월남전에 대한 반전 분위기를 타고 히트를 하게 되었다.

킹스턴 트리오는 1957년 샌프란시스코에서 Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, Dave Guard 세명이 결성되어 만들어 졌다.

1958년 Tom Dooley라는 전설적인 인물을 다룬 동명의 노래를 발표하면서 히트를 하게 되었다.

이후 리더였던 Dave가 탈퇴하고 그 뒤를 이어 John Stewart가 합류를 하게 되었다.
