Seasons in the Sun. 흔히 '태양의 계절'로 번역되는 이 노래. 프랑스 4대 샹송 거장 중 한 명으로 꼽힌다는

자끄 브렐(Jacques Brel)의 샹송 Le Moribond(죽어가는 사내)가 원곡으로, 시인이자 작곡가인 로드 맥킨이 영어로 번역해 팝송화한 것입니다.

그리고 그 영어 버전을 1973년 캐나다 출신의 싱어 송라이터 테리 잭스(Terry Jacks)가 다시 불러

미국, 영국, 캐나다 등지에서 팝 차트 1위에 오르면서 세상에 널리 알려지게 됩니다.

그로부터 26년 정도 후인 1999년, 아일랜드 팝 밴드 웨스트라이프가 이 노래를 리메이크해 내놓는데,

바로 앞서 소개한 리메이크 곡 I Have A Dream과 함께 영국 팝 싱글 차트 1위에 오르는 히트곡이 됩니다.   

 

참고로 영국 팝 차트 1위에 오른 웨스트라이프의 14곡 가운데 무려 7곡이 다른 가수 곡을 리메이크해 부른 곡인데, 

그걸 발표 연도순으로 정리해보면 다음과 같습니다.

아바의 I Have A Dream(1999년), 테리 잭스가 불러 유명해진 Seasons in the Sun(1999년), 필 콜린스의 Take A Look at Me Now(2000년), 빌리 조엘의 Uptown Girl(2001년), 배리 매닐로우 노래로 잘 알려진 Mandy(2003년), 시크릿 가든의 You Raise Me Up(2005년), 베티 미들러의 Rose(2006년).
